There are now over 2 million hybrid vehicles in North America alone. Ten years ago, it was easy to service your own auto air conditioning system. Vehicles had a simple design and only a 12V battery source for starting, running electronics and fuel injection. Although the fittings and placement may have been slightly different, with the help of your owner's manual, you knew what to expect. Whether you have a hybrid or an older vehicle, it is always a good idea to have your system serviced by a professional car air conditioner shop before the heat of summer hits.

When checking your A/C system, it is important to keep in mind that hybrids do have a slight difference in their air conditioning system than vehicles of ten years ago. Hybrids do not feature a regular 12V battery alone. There is a high voltage battery pack that can contain up to 273 volts, as well. The high voltage battery pack runs the air conditioning compressor, electric motor and inverter/converter. It also uses a different oil type than traditional systems. One oil type absorbs moisture and can conduct electricity, while the other does not. If not properly handled, it could turn a seemingly simple procedure into a very dangerous situation. Unless specially trained, it is best to have the auto air conditioning system serviced by a professional car air conditioner shop.

Your vehicle is a costly investment. We sometimes take for granted the heating and cooling systems, but would definitely notice if either system failed during a road trip. Having your systems checked periodically not only gives you piece of mind but can save you money and your investment in the long run.
