As the days are getting shorter and darker, the lights of home always look good as you come home from work or school. If your car could talk, it may be saying the same thing. After traveling long distances on road trips during the hot months of summer, it’s time to take care of your vehicle. It may be saying, “Give me some TLC—an automotive service! Take a little time to see what kind of automotive repair your vehicle may need by checking the following basic vehicle components.

  • Transmission – Check the transmission fluid level and look for leaks, unusual shifting patterns or strange noises. If any of these are noticeable, it’s time to schedule an automotive repair with a certified transmission repair shop.
  • A/C - Check the Freon or coolant additive for leaks and the proper ratio to make sure it is working properly.
  • Tires- Check for uneven wear or under/over inflation. If your car drifts while driving in a straight line, check the wheel alignment. If the steering wheel is vibrating, your tires may need balancing.
  • Oil –Check the oil level and have it changed, along with the filter, if you have reached the recommended mileage interval. Try not to go over the manufacturere’s recommendation.
  • Brakes – Check the brake fluid and listen for screeching sounds, which may indicate a problem. It may be time to have the pads or rotors repaired or replaced.
  • Coolant System – Check all hoses, fluid coolant level, radiator, and thermostat to keep everything operating efficiently.
  • Battery – Check for lose cable connections, and that the water levels in the cells are adequate.

With winter on our doorstep, have your vehicle thoroughly inspected, serviced and any necessary automotive repair work taken care. Your vehicle will “thank you” by providing you with dependable service for your busy schedule!

Is your car tired with little or no pep? Give it some quality automotive service! Contact our ASE Certified Technicians at Clausen Automotive by calling (608) 221-8321 or go on-line at https://www.clausenautomotive.com for more information. Since 1975, our family-owned automotive repair shop has proudly served vehicle owners in Madison, WI, and surrounding communities.

A Quick Tip to Remember: The reputable auto mechanics at Clausen Automotive would like to advise their customers how to protect the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of their vehicle. It has been known for car thieves to peer through the windshield of a vehicle, write down the VIN from the label on the dash, go to the local dealership, request a duplicate key based on the VIN, and then return to the vehicle. All he has to do is walk up to your car, insert the key, and take off! He doesn’t have to break in, do any damage, or draw attention to himself. By law, you cannot remove the VIN, but you CAN cover it so it can't be viewed through the windshield by a car thief. To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some dark tape (electrical tape, duct tape or medical tape) across the VIN Number Metal Label located on the dashboard.
