Although everyone understands that brakes are by far the most important part of a vehicle, it is easy to let little things slip, like brake pads. It is important that drivers understand the signs that a brake repair is needed, such as:

1. If there is a loss of grip while braking
2. The feel of pulling one direction or another while braking
3. Shuddering in the steering wheel while braking
4. Loud noises while braking
5. Brake system warning light turns on
6. Vehicle taking longer than normal to stop

When the brake pedal is pressed, a complex system is engaged. This complex system includes the brake pads, which are most common to go out and need replacement. Once the pedal is pressed, brake fluid is forced to engage systems that will force the brake pad onto the disc rotor. This is what causes the friction and causes the vehicle to come to a stop. Brake pads are fitted to what is known as the caliper, which apply and release the pads from the disc rotor. For maximum efficiency and safety, the new pads must fit perfectly against the rotors.

When going in for a brake repair to have new pads installed, checking the disc rotors is also very important. If their surface is pitted and marred, they may need to be completely replaced or possibly just machined. This will ensure not only maximum braking efficiency but also provides for the safety of the driver and others, in or out of the vehicle.
